World-class research
The Centre’s research on materials characterisation and testing advances the boundaries of our ability to observe molecular and atomistic change. Driving the latest technology in Mass Spectrometry, ultrahigh resolution microscopy and imaging as well as the ability to direct chemical transformation at an atom-by-atom level. We develop and deploy advanced technologies directed towards the frontiers of mixture analysis and light-matter interactions.
Our expertise in materials characterisation establishes QUT’s reputation at the forefront of analytical measurement and technique development, both nationally and globally, by prioritising the use of novel techniques that capitalise on our strategy of bringing together cutting-edge instrumentation and world-class technical expertise.
Advanced infrastructure
Advanced and diverse characterisation facilities are essential to understanding the performance of materials. The Centre for Materials Science is strongly supported in this by the Central Analytical Research Facility, with state of the art analytical equipment for research areas including Microscopy, Molecular Mass Spectrometry, Surface Analysis, Physical and Mechanical Properties.
Centre for Material Science and the Central Analytical Research Facility possess a range of techniques for characterisation testing of new materials.
Researchers from the QUT Centre Material for Material Science are utilising their unique capabilities and expertise to deliver solutions to solve real world challenges, development new industry ready technologies, and advancing fundamental understanding of the material world.
