How to join us
We have a variety of higher degree research experience opportunities on offer throughout the year for high-quality candidates. Current opportunities include:
PhD and Masters (MPhil) Program
To join our Centre as a PhD or Masters student you are welcome to apply for QUT annual research scholarship.
QUT’s annual scholarship round for research students opens on 1 May 2023 for scholarships to be paid from 2024. Successful applicants will start their degrees from January to July 2024.
You’ll need to get agreement from your proposed supervisor prior to applying. Please check our Research Staff to find a supervisor which suits your research interests.
Closing dates:
- International students must submit their expression of interest by 31 July 2023.
- Domestic applicants must submit their expression of interest by 31 August 2023.

Winter Research Experience Program
Our Winter Research Experience Program gives undergraduate students an opportunity to participate in a research project for approximately four weeks during the winter holidays.
The program is open to STEM students in second year or above, offers paid, hands-on research experience and the opportunity to explore the possibilities of research in materials science.
As part of your research you will be employed as a casual research assistant for up to 40 hrs. The period of eligibility for positions generally commences in late-June and concludes in mid-July.

Summer Research Experience Program
Our Summer Research Experience Program gives undergraduate students an opportunity to participate in a research project for approximately six weeks during the summer holidays.
The program is open to STEM students in second year or above, offers paid, hands-on research experience and the opportunity to explore the possibilities of research in materials science.
As part of your research you will receive funding equivalent to $335 per week. The period of eligibility for scholarship payments generally commences in mid-November and concludes in mid-February. Funding is not normally available for research taking place outside of the academic calendar, such as during Christmas break.
