Characterising sequence-controlled polymers in real space: polymer genome through submolecular imaging

This project will develop analytical tools for the characterisation of sequence-controlled polymers (SCPs) by direct spatial investigation using high resolution scanning probe microscopy. This project will follow two parallel streams:

  1. to use high-resolution scanning probe microscopy (SPM) to directly visualise model polymer systems, with the aim of developing a diagnostic tool that can be used to identify the relationship between synthesis conditions and microstructure
  2. to develop a soft-landing apparatus that will permit investigation of SCPs in ultrahigh vacuum.
