In this proof-of-concept project we worked with clusters of high schools and STEM-related industries in the Moreton Bay and Townsville regions to establish and pilot two ‘STEM Hubs’. A STEM Hub is a partnership of education, industry, business, community and other stakeholders that aims to create a systemic, sustainable platform for educational improvement in STEM.
The project identified ‘STEM capital’ within these communities and facilitated connections between schools and STEM businesses using curriculum development as a collective goal. Teachers and STEM professionals collaborated on the design of industry-relevant STEM Resources on Demand (STEMROD) to be taught across the schools. The process and outcomes were documented and evaluated, culminating in the production of a Framework for STEM partnerships in Queensland, and a STEM Hubs Handbook for schools.
