Somerville House Internship Program

On 19 August 2019, we celebrated the Somerville House Science Internship Program with our interns Sophie Morrison and Taylor Thorne, Somerville House Principal and staff. The program offers high calibre science students the opportunity to be part of real world research projects being carried out at the Centre for Children’s Health Research (CCHR). BSRG Project Coordinator Maree Izatt is pictured above at the event with our interns Sophie and Taylor.

BSRG Senior Research Fellow Dr Paige Little, has continued to support the Somerville House Science Internship program, through mentorship and support for Sophie and Taylor over the past 18 months. As part of the CCHR internship, Dr Little asked the students to evaluate the accuracy of 3D surface scanning equipment used in the BSRG lab at CCHR. The students were supported to learn what 3D surface scanning is and how to scan objects. They developed analytical methods for evaluating the mathematical error involved in scanning both physical objects and human participants and results from their project will assist the BSRG in future clinical and research projects using 3D surface scanning technology.
