Dr Geoff Askin and a patient
Adjunct Professor Geoff Askin caring for a young spine deformity patient at the Children’s Hospital

The Biomechanics and Spine Research Group (BSRG) at the Queensland University of Technology undertake a wide range of research activities, from basic science to clinical research. Our approach to new discoveries is to apply a multidisciplinary research framework engaging Orthopaedic Surgeons, Biomedical Engineers and research support staff and students to address clinically driven problems such as; Paediatric Spine Deformity Research, Mechanobiology of Bone Remodelling & Adaptation, Osteoporotic Fractures & the Aging Spine, Spine Implant Testing and Analysis and the Characterisation of Biological Tissues.

Adjunct Professor Robert Labrom at the Queensland Children’s Hospital, Brisbane

Our aim is to contribute to current scientific and medical knowledge with outcomes that are driven by clinical needs and are therefore immediately clinically applicable. Our research aims to positively impact the lives of children and adults with spinal deformity and disorders.
