IHBI Gala Dinner Pre-Event

Emeritus Professor Mark Pearcy, was an invited guest speaker at the recent Pre IHBI Gala Dinner event in honour of the 10 year anniversary of the opening of the Medical Engineering Research Facility (MERF) at Chermside. This IHBI Gala Dinner that followed the pre-event occurs annually to showcase the depth and quality of research undertaken at QUT. The MERF facility was then and remains a unique facility which supports medical devices research and development in a state-of-the-art QUT facility.  It has capabilities for preclinical studies, including post-explantation evaluation, and facilities for hands-on skills training for surgeons, theatre staff and sales personnel.  Backed by rigorous academic research from the Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation, MERF provides preclinical research models in small and large animals for the assessment of new biomaterials, medical devices, implants and surgical techniques. MERF has a strong focus on applications in orthopaedics, but its capabilities extend to all clinical areas.
