HDR Design Sprint: Tackling decarbonisation

Doing good and doing well

In early 2023, eight Higher Degree Research (HDR) teams were given the challenge of unpacking the decarbonisation growth opportunities of the sustainable development goals, responding to the SDGs of People, Peace, Partnership and Planet. The goal was to shift the SDG narrative from ‘corporate social responsibility’ to ‘corporate social opportunity’, the opportunity being: doing good and doing well.

Using a design-led, qualitative research approach, the sprint teams uncovered and explored the trends, technologies and challenges of the SDGs related to decarbonisation in an industry ecosystem. The teams then explored and refined new opportunities, concepts and business models that align with SDGs and deliver value to the ecosystem. As these concepts push the boundaries of what’s possible, the deliverable for each sprint team was to develop research questions, hypotheses and provocations that need to be answered for these opportunities to be realised.
