“Sharing this program with a diverse, highly talented group of students and exploring the challenges we face now, and into the future, was highly beneficial.”
What is an HDR Design Sprint?
HDR Design Sprints are industry-focused short-term transdisciplinary team projects delivered via a design sprint model.
Over a one-week intensive experience, Higher Research Degree (HDR) students work with their peers from across the university in transdisciplinary teams to uncover and explore the trends, technologies, and challenges of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to an industry sector. Teams explore and refine new opportunities, concepts and business models that align with SDGs and deliver value to the ecosystem. As these concepts push the boundaries of what’s possible, the deliverable for each sprint team is to develop research questions, hypotheses and provocations that need to be answered for these opportunities to be realised.
Each team participating in the Design Sprint will deliver a report to the industry partners with research questions surrounding the SDGs. The report will shape the industry partners’ approach to achieving the organisation’s goals in relation to the SDGs and could result in additional industry engagement opportunities becoming available, such as internships or part-time employment.
