Celebrating Excellence: VC's Award for Prof Rob Perrons and Team

This week, Professor Rob Perrons and his team — Ms Angela Le Prou, Mr David Loose, and Mr Nigel Oorloff — were honoured with the Vice Chancellor’s Award for their remarkable contribution to global education.

Their achievement was the creation of a world-class online course for the United Nations SDG Academy: Managing Innovation and New Technologies in the Extractive Industries. This massive open online course (MOOC) equips participants with practical tools and fresh ideas to drive innovation and research in extractive industries.

Extractive industries such as mining and oil & gas are becoming increasingly technology-driven, yet managing the rapid pace of technological change remains a challenge for companies, governments, and stakeholders. Through this course, learners gain insights into how innovation can accelerate progress towards clean energy, industrial transformation, climate action, and ultimately, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Professor Perrons and his team have not only advanced QUT’s reputation for excellence but also contributed to a global mission: helping industries adapt responsibly to technological change while supporting sustainability. Their work demonstrates how academic expertise can directly influence international conversations on energy, innovation, and climate.

Congratulations to Rob, Angela, David, and Nigel on this well-deserved recognition. Their dedication and vision exemplify the values of CFE. This award is a celebration of their hard work, but also a reminder of the impact our Centre has on the world stage.
