Wings when we fall: Reflecting on the 2025 HDR Colloquium

This week CFE came alive with energy, ideas, and inspiration as our community gathered for one of the most anticipated events on our calendar — the 2025 HDR Colloquium, held on Tuesday 15 July.

More than just a showcase of research, the Colloquium is a celebration of curiosity, collaboration, and the incredible journeys our Higher Degree Research (HDR) students are undertaking. It’s a day designed to foster peer-to-peer learning and deepen our collective insight into the exciting work happening across the Centre – and this year’s edition did not disappoint.

What makes CFE truly special is the spirit of generosity and support that runs through everything we do. A research centre is more than a hub for knowledge, it’s a place for synergy, trusted guidance, and, as we were reminded during the event, a space for friendship, positivity, and encouragement.

Or as one participant beautifully put it: a place that helps us develop wings when we fall.

Thank you

We extend a heartfelt thank you to our incredible HDRs for your inspiring presentations. Your passion and commitment to advancing knowledge lit up the room and reminded us all why research matters. Your work continues to enrich our understanding of enterprise and its evolving future, and we’re proud to support your journey. We’re also deeply grateful to our judges and panelists for their thoughtful feedback and generous support. At CFE, we’re lucky to be part of a collegial and uplifting community, one where collaboration thrives and everyone genuinely champions each other’s success.

A special shoutout to Andrew Burton-Jones, Professor of Business Information Systems at UQ’s Business School, for his keynote address, which set the tone for the day with wisdom, warmth, and a powerful reminder of what it means to care for your community.

And of course, none of this would have been possible without the seamless organisation and thoughtful planning by Koushik Raghavendra. Thank you for creating such a supportive and engaging space for our HDR community.
