Can we trust innovation?
Trust and innovation are two forces that drive success in business, however these two critical forces can often conflict with each other.
Confidence and certainty are key drivers for trust, but innovation often requires the opposite: being unsure about specific outcomes, taking large risks with significant possibility for failure, and trying out new things that are yet to be proven. Additionally, innovation can require a lot of vulnerability from customers (for instance in the medical industry), which again would normally lead to a reduction in trust. If organisations want to do both – be trusted by their customers and the community, but also innovate – can they overcome this challenge? And if so, how?
At this month’s Brisbane Trust Alliance, chaired by Philipp Joebges, we will explore the nexus between trust and innovation, including how organisations can strike the right balance and navigate tensions that may arise between the two.
