Han-Min (Eric) Hsu is a 4th-year honours student in the School of Counselling and Psychology who is pursuing a career in mental health after working within the fitness industry for the last 10 years, where he has developed a passion for working with people. Eric hopes to develop skills in cognitive assessment and psychotherapy treatment through a clinical master’s program, with a particular interest in working with individuals living with neurological degenerative disorders, such as Dementia, Alzheimer’s, and Parkinson’s, to improve and promote quality of life.
What made you interested in the program?
My undergraduate study in psychology has sparked my interest in people’s lack of access to mental health and, quite often, the barriers that prevail in people’s access. The emerging technology of Artificial Intelligence is helping clinicians support individuals with their mental health. I especially find it fascinating that technology has allowed for research using phenotypes and morphological traits to predict mental health risk before mental health issues arise. This would have a domino effect on how people may access evidence-based therapy, whether from clinicians or online-based support. I look forward to contributing to the greater literature, making it one step closer to improving global access to mental health support.
What research question are you looking forward to exploring?
I am looking forward to exploring the predictive capabilities of different Phenotypic and Morphological traits on mental health risk, as well as the change in subjective wellness that comes from emerging online psychotherapies that may alleviate mental health distress before people access clinicians.
Fun Fact About Yourself?
A lot of people eat to train, but I train to eat. I enjoy how food brings people and cultures together. Except for bugs, I have a fear of them and will never eat one!
