Vision
The Data Science & AI in Society theme develops cutting-edge, data-driven solutions to drive innovation in public agencies, public policy processes, and governance systems.
The Data Science & AI in Society theme enhances data fluency, stewardship, and sovereignty capacities in Australia and globally. The Program leverages QUT’s nationally and internationally recognised expertise in artificial intelligence (AI), generative AI, ethical and explainable AI (XAI), data governance and sovereignty, and technology law. Addressing issues of national and global importance, the Program brings together established and emerging voices to shape policies, frameworks, and best practices for the safe and responsible use of AI. We develop cutting-edge, data-driven solutions to drive innovation in public agencies, public policy processes, and governance systems.
- We convene participants from industry, government, academia, and civil society in focused, time-bound collaborations, research, and educational initiatives responsive to community needs.
- We collaborate with communities, industry partners, Tier-1 Research Centres, and Australian Centres of Excellence to provide evidence-informed recommendations for Queensland’s and Australia’s emerging AI policies and regulatory frameworks.
- We prioritise approaches and methods that embed Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property (ICIP), Caring for Country and Indigenous Data Sovereignty (IDS) concerns in culturally appropriate ways.
- Addresses the urgent challenges facing public agencies trying to make sense of their vast data reservoirs to create and implement evidence-driven public policy.
- Designs and evaluates computational solutions driving innovation in the business of government, and
- Solves challenges faced by public agencies designing, developing, and deploying data-driven systems
By bridging technical and applied research, the Data Science & AI in Society theme better informs how data-driven decision-making is done in a trustworthy and accountable way and for the benefit of our communities and Australia.
