Join us for the inaugural QUT Centre for Data Science – DataScience for HDR Networking session! Learn more about the QUT Centre for Data Science. Hear and be inspired from three HDR graduates on their journey from PhD to now. Network with other students who are passionate about data science.

Date and time: 2 April 2020, 4-5:30pm

Location: QUT GP-S1215 OJW Room

The speakers include:

Dr Ruth Luscombe – Senior Data Scientist and Technical Team Lead Fireball.International

Ruth has a PhD in Decision Science from the School of Mathematics and Statistics at QUT. She has worked as an applied mathematician across many industries including health, resources, and transport. She now works as a senior data scientist and technical team lead. Her current role is with Fireball.International, a company that uses IoT cameras and satellite imagery to do early bushfire detection.

Dr Nick Marsh – founder of Truii

Truii is a data technology company that creates web applications for data management, modelling and visualisation. Truii has a back catalogue of environmental modelling and reporting applications (check out https://reportcard.reefplan.qld.gov.au/, https://inventory.dnrme.qld.gov.au/). The creation of Truii evolved through a career in academia, government and consulting where Nick led the development of environmental modelling applications. Nick and the Truii team are big fans of data driven decision making and strive to provide data and modelling capacity in a form that can be used by decision makers. Nick has an undergraduate degree in Environmental Engineering (Hon 1) and PhD (University of Melbourne) in Fluvial Geomorphology (landscape processes).

Dr Sina Aminmansour – Specialist Data Scientist, BHP

Sina finished his PhD in the field of Robotics and Autonomous Systems at QUT. He has worked on developing railway safety applications during his PhD. His research interests are machine learning, computer vision, robotics, and enterprise web-based systems. Sina has more than ten years of experience working as a Researcher / Software Engineer in the industry and academia, involving in many computer vision and enterprise web-based projects. In his recent roles in the industry, he has worked as a Senior Software Engineer and Computer Vision Consultant at Red Hat, and as a Senior Machine Learning Consultant at Deloitte.
