Co-creating evidence-driven solutions with practice

In this seminar, Arizona State University Professor Gregory Dawson shared lessons learned from his diverse expertise of engaging in research projects with practitioners in the public and private sectors. He will outline strategies on how to co-create research projects with external stakeholders. In addition, he discussed how to communicate research results in a manner that is accessible to external stakeholders.

About the speaker

Gregory S. Dawson is a Clinical Professor in the School of Accountancy at the W. P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University where he has won numerous research and teaching awards. He is also a member of ASU’s Center for Organization Research and Design (CORD) which is a part of ASU’s School of Public Affairs (SPA) as well as a senior research scientist at the Julie Ann Wrigley School of Sustainability at ASU. Dr. Dawson has published extensively in various top academic journals including Organization Science, Journal of Management Information Systems, Journal of the Association of Information Systems and Journal of Strategic Information Systems, among many others. He has also published extensively in practitioner journals including Information Week and Brookings (among others). He recently completed a series of papers on national artificial intelligence plans that resulted in six practitioner articles and three academic articles.

Dr. Dawson also has extensive experience as a consultant. Prior to getting his PhD from the University of Georgia in 2008, he was a Partner in PricewaterhouseCoopers Government Consulting Practice and was also a Director in Gartner’s State and Local Government consulting practice. His client ranged from large multi-national organizations (e.g. Microsoft) to federal government agencies (e.g. CIA, FBI, Department of Defense) to state and local government clients (e.g. States of California, Virginia, New York and cities of Austin Texas, New York). He now works as an independent consultant (often subcontracting to Gartner) an is currently engaged with a strategic technology modernization effort of a large western city in the United States.
