Trade in a Trumpian World
Donald Trump’s recent removal of tariffs on imports of food products is unlikely to be the last gyration in US trade policy. US trading partners are faced with a choice between appeasing Trump in the hope of a return to pre-2025 “normality” and seeking to reroute their trade flows around the US. In this webinar, the issue will be discussed in economic, geopolitical and cultural terms.
The speakers:
- Professor John Quiggin, UQ – Goods and services trade: How is the world trade system adapting to Trump’s use of tariffs as an all-purpose geopolitical policy instrument.
- Professor Karen Hussey, UQ – Energy, environment and climate change
- Professor Mark Ryan, QUT – Cultural trade: tariffs have been declared on movies made outside the United States. Is this even possible and what could the impacts be?
Moderator: Professor Robina Xavier, QUT
