Dr Emma Felton has wide experience as an educator, researcher and educational manager. She writes and researches primarily about cities from an interdisciplinary perspective, and has a PhD in urban sociology.

Emma is the author of Filtered: Coffee the Cafe and the 21st century City (Routledge 2019), about the cafe's role in urban change. She's author/editor of Design and Ethics: Reflections on Practice  co-edited with Oksana Zelenko and Suzi Vaughan (Routledge 2012)

She has been the recipient of ALT (Teaching and Learning) and Auda grants and project managed & researched on a large ARC grant, Creative Suburbia.  She is a peer assessor for the Australian Research Council (ARC).

Other experience includes national leadership roles in online education (2001-2008) and lecturer & curriculum developer in media and cultural studies. Emma co-ordinated the Creative Industries Faculty's creative arts program, which involved developing and delivering creative arts activities to communities. She supervises PhD students.

Emma has worked as a consultant for SLQ, the QLD Health Dept and the RTA (Residential Tenancies Authority.) and NextGen.

Emma has worked as a consultant for SLQ (State Library Qld), the QLD Health Dept. the RTA (Residential Tenancies Authority.) and NextGen (a youth focussed arts-based Canberra think tank).

She has given several media interviews and has published articles in The Conversation.
