Assessing the operation of voluntary assisted dying laws in Australia

This multi-jurisdictional, multi-disciplinary ARC Linkage project is designed to develop a comprehensive and rigorous evidence base to facilitate an assessment of how voluntary assisted dying (VAD) practice is currently occurring in selected Australian States.

The project will:

  • provide a timely, clear assessment of how the VAD system is operating in practice; and
  • identify what systemic or practical reforms may be needed to achieve the optimal balance between ensuring eligible individuals who choose to do so can access VAD, while ensuring the safeguards operate effectively to deny access to ineligible individuals.
