Visiting researchers

Information for prospective visiting researchers

What we can offer

The Australian Centre for Health Law Research (ACHLR) regularly welcomes colleagues from elsewhere in Australia and around the world for short visits of up to a week (e.g. to give a seminar or workshop), as well as for longer, more formal Visiting Research Fellowships. These visits are of rich mutual benefit, facilitating knowledge exchange, building international collaborations, and exposing everyone to different ways of thinking and working.

Visiting Research Fellows can be early career, mid-career or senior scholars. Visiting Research Students are currently enrolled Higher Degree by Research (normally PhD) students. Visiting Research Fellows stay with us for between one and three months, and in some cases for longer. Visiting researchers may be given access to QUT email, library access, and a desk (if one is available).

Visitors are encouraged to participate actively in the full program of ACHLR seminars, events, and social activities, and are generally expected to give at least one seminar or workshop to the ACHLR community during their stay.

What we’re looking for

We prioritise Visiting Research Fellows and Visiting Research Students who:

  1. Are self-funded;
  2. Have an excellent research track record relative to their career opportunities;
  3. Plan to undertake a clearly defined research project that is closely aligned with the ACHLR’s priorities, programs and projects;
  4. Are based in a research organisation that is well-aligned to the ACHLR and/or with whom we have an established relationship;
  5. Know which ACHLR researchers they want to work closely with, and why; and
  6. Can commit to progressing a publication for submission to a highly ranked journal and/or other quality research output or research project, including a competitive grant funding application (where possible and appropriate, co-authored and/or in collaboration with an ACHLR academic collaborator) during the course of their visit.
