Development of Bushfire resistant shutter system

Project Description

In Australia, bushfires are more severe and frequent due to their vast landscape and rich biological diversity. In the event of a bushfire, the glazing areas of windows are among the most vulnerable areas of the external building envelope since they are susceptible to damage from radiant heat and flame contact and offer significant entry points for embers. To protect the windows and the entire building, it is necessary to install a well-designed shutter system in bushfire-prone areas. The main objective of this study is to develop a bushfire resistant shutter system capable of protecting buildings from ember penetration and having good insulation properties to reduce heat transfer through the external envelope of a building, such as windows, thus protecting the building against bushfires.
