In early August, Associate Professor Sofia Mavropoulou and Dr Glenys Mann travelled to Chicago to attend the 17th International Association for the Scientific Study of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IASSIDD) World Conference. They presented papers as part of a symposium on reimagining connections between teachers and parents of students with disability. Sofia and Glenys planned this symposium with two colleagues, Katrina Fleming from the United Kingdom and Jacqueline Specht from Canada. They also presented individual papers—Sofia on the recent inclusive education in Australia policy review undertaken with Suzanne Carrington, Beth Saggers, and Smita Nepal through the Autism CRC, and Glenys on an article that is currently in press which focuses on the Disability Royal Commission’s recommendations regarding special schools. They both made some great connections while at the conference; Glenys with people who are supporting the inclusion of students with intellectual disability in higher education, and Sofia with colleagues implementing inclusive research methodologies.
