In a recent Aljazeera article, C4IE member Professor Marilyn Campbell was featured, arguing that the evidence supporting smartphone bans in schools is weak and inconclusive. Campbell’s research reviewed global studies and found mixed results on academic performance, mental health, and cyberbullying. She contends that decisions on smartphone policies should be made by individual schools to best meet their community’s needs, rather than through broad political mandates responding to public concerns.
