The Design for Impact Summit 2020 was a two day design thinking immersion experience for grade five students at Mathew Flinders Anglican College in collaboration with QUT’s Design Lab’s and C4IE member Dr Natalie Wright. QUT Masters student Ms Leighann Ness Wilson and design teacher Justin Hill lead students through the program, giving students experience as ‘future thinkers’ in active democratic participation and an understanding of the power of collective decision making as they designed and prototyped the Maroochydore City Centre for 2050. During the summit design professionals and local community members with specific industry knowledge joined students to provide different view points and help students develop empathy with different stakeholders.
Dr Natalie Wright also ran professional learning sessions with the attending teachers teachers to further their knowledge and application of design thinking for contemporary learning.
