Professor Suzanne Carrington presented at the Third International Symposium on Inclusive Education in Wuhan, China

On 23rd June 2024, Professor Suzanne Carrington was invited to present at the Third International Symposium on Inclusive Education at Central China Normal University (CCNU), Wuhan, China. CCNU have a strong team of academics working in inclusive education and special education and conduct high quality research and publish in Q1 journals. This team also leads professional learning for schools. Inclusive education is a policy priority in China and there is significant support to prepare teachers from special schools and regular schools to work collaboratively to progress inclusion in China. Of course, as in many countries around the world, this will take time. The Third International Symposium on Inclusive Education in Wuhan attracted keynote speakers from China, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Thailand and involved presentations from Chinese researchers and practitioners about research and practice.

Suzanne was a visitor at the School of Education at CCNU for two weeks to deliver numerous presentations and workshops for CCNU students studying inclusive education and special education, academic staff, and Higher Degree Research (HDR) students in the school. In addition, she discussed potential collaboration in undergraduate and research students’ training, faculty exchange, and research partnerships between CCNU and QUT. Two key areas of research collaboration are being explored: Transformative Leadership for Equity and Inclusion; and School-Family Partnerships for Inclusion in China, Australia, and New Zealand: A Comparative Study.
