Dr Schmid is an Associate Professor in the School of Optometry and Vision Science. Her undergraduate optometry degree was awarded with first class honours and she is a QUT Medal recipient. She was awarded an Australian Post-Graduate Research Award; the topic of her PhD thesis was “Visual and retinal control of eye growth and refraction”. Her main research interests include refractive error development, myopia, accommodation and binocular vision, amblyopia, ocular surface, meibomian gland dysfunction, teaching and learning. She has been awarded two prestigious awards for her research papers. The Classic Paper Award, OPO, 2014 and the JLloyd Hewett Award, CXO, 2020 She is an Editorial Board Member for two prestigious international journals IOVS TVST and Nature Scientific Reports. Based on the Bibliometric analysis of Refractive Error related papers her 2021 Rank = # 25 of world researchers. Additional information
Dr Schmid is a registered optometrist with an Ocular Therapeutics Endorsement and has worked in private optometric practice. Dr Schmid has been an OAA council member and member of the Optometrists Board of QLD (including Deputy Chair for three years). She is an AHPRA Optometry Board Expert Panel Member: Investigation of Practitioner Complaints. She is a member of the OCANZ Written Examination Committee.
