Space materials need to withstand extreme conditions and the associated research focuses on the causative behaviour of materials in the space environment. An environment where performance (e.g. conversion efficiency) is no longer the most important feature of a material but performance evolution and aging represent the biggest challenges.
The Centre for Materials Science is equipped with the right set of skills to address the unique development needs of space technology. We develop materials that will cope with the rigors of space travelling to facilitate the future of space exploration.
