The Centre is celebrating Professor Deepak Dubal, who has been awarded the Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Research and Innovation Excellence in recognition of his leadership in next-generation sustainable energy storage.
Prof Dubal is internationally known for pioneering advanced battery and supercapacitor materials that translate fundamental research into real-world clean-energy applications. In 2024–2025, he secured more than $3.1 million in competitive funding, strengthening QUT’s capability in future energy technologies and accelerating research translation.
A highly influential researcher, he has produced over 350 high-impact publications, attracted more than 26,000 citations, holds an h-index of 86, and is an inventor on four patents, including a granted US patent.
Centre Co-Director Prof Dmitri Golberg, who nominated Prof Dubal for the award, said Deepak’s achievements reflect both excellence and impact.
“Deepak has established himself as a global leader in sustainable energy materials. His ability to combine fundamental science with real-world application, while building strong collaborations across disciplines and industry, is truly exceptional. This award recognises not only his scientific contributions but also his commitment to innovation, teamwork and research translation.”
Deepak credits the award to the people who support his work—his students, collaborators, mentors, and colleagues across QUT—whose ideas, encouragement and partnership, he says, make every success possible.
Prof Dubal’s achievement reflects the Centre’s commitment to ambitious, innovative research that drives meaningful impact for Australia’s clean-energy future.
