This project investigates the roles youth play in building inclusive and durable peace at local and international levels. It explores the role of youth-led advocacy and engagement in the context of the emergent international ‘Youth, Peace and Security agenda’. It aims to generate new insights into best practice for including youth in peace and security policies.
It examines the peace-building agenda-setting efforts of youth in their local contexts by centering the experiences of young people themselves. The 2015 UN Security Council Resolution 2250 on Youth, Peace and Security calls for more attention on youth as partners for peace, yet we know little about youth-led peace initiatives as detailed empirical research is limited. This project offers an empirical examination of how young people seek to contribute to local, national, and global peace and security landscapes. It centres youth-led activism for peace and security that is often overlooked in policy development and under-theorised in the literature. Expected outcomes contribute to growing global recognition of youth-led peace advocacy by providing richer understandings of how to support and empower youth in conflict-affected contexts.
