Dr Rae Haynes is a Senior Lecturer (Visual Arts) in the School of Creative Arts at QUT.

Rae completed a PhD, an exploration of the ethics of exhibition practice examining encounters between artworks and audiences in terms of difference,  with the support of an Australian Postgraduate Award for research. Rae's current research investigates gender ethics and socially engaged art through pedagogical, curatorial, participatory and installation strategies.

Recent creative works and projects have been exhibited nationally and internationally at the Wallach Art Gallery, Cambridge University, New York; The Brisbane Festival; the Institute of Modern Art (IMA) and the Museum of Brisbane (MOB).  Collaborative projects with the feminist art collective LEVEL have been presented in major institutions  including at ACCA (Melbourne), GOMA (Brisbane), MCA (Sydney) and Performance Space (Sydney).

Rae's writing on feminism and art has been published in numerous journals including Feminist Review, Feminist Encounters: A Journal of Critical Studies in Culture and Politics, the Journal of Australian Studies, Educational Philosophy and Theory and was also included in the Routledge Handbook of Contemporary Feminism.

Rae has been actively involved with independent and artist-led activity since 2010 and has served on the Board of Directors for the Institute of Modern Art (IMA), was a founding member of the feminist collective LEVEL (2010-2018) and the Gallery Director of Boxcopy Contemporary Art Space (2012-2018). Committed to  gender diversity and inclusion through social practices in the arts, Rae actively contributes to arts and advocacy organisations and artist-led communities of practice.
