Increasing Inclusion in Rural, Generalist Health Services

Increasing Inclusion in Rural, Generalist Health Services: Developing a Process of Change

If health outcomes in Australia are to improve, health care must be provided to those who need it most, the poorest and sickest residents. However, these consumers often endure sickness rather than seek out services that they experience as exclusive and disrespectful. In order to provide accessible health care to disadvantaged residents, many of whom live rurally, all health services need to be inclusive of diverse cultures and identities. This project is working with rural health services to implement service-wide changes and produce knowledge about how health services can adapt to the needs of diverse consumers. The project aims to develop a ‘toolkit’ for all health services to use to become more responsive to specific groups of consumers.
