Dr Shane Warren is a Lecturer in social work at the School of Public Health and Social Work, Queensland University of Technology. He entered academia after working more than 25 years in the fields of of disability services, family support, child safety, youth justice, housing and homelessness and violence prevention in Australia and in the United Kingdom. In 2018, Shane completed his doctoral study that focused on homelessness in the Central Queensland mining communities of Dysart, Moranbah and Mackay where he identified the influence of the mining cycle on homelessness in these communities, and the unique experiences of homelessness in these communities due to the interaction of housing and labour markets and welfare services. Shane is a strong advocate for increasing the supply of social and affordable housing and investing in 'Housing First' responses that entail flexible support services and appropriate and affordable housing solutions for community members experiencing homelessness, disadvantage and marginalisation. Shane is a critical social work scholar and educator.
