Text Mining for the Hydrogen Industry in Australia

Project dates: 01/03/2022 - 01/11/2023

Project title: Using Big Data and Strategic Communication to Support the Hydrogen Industry’s Evolution in Australia

Hydrogen is a versatile, efficient, low-polluting, and renewable energy carrier that has been predicted to play a significant role in the global energy transition. As Australia’s hydrogen industry continues to develop, discussions and narratives about the energy source, its benefits and challenges are also emerging via media coverage and on social media platforms. Analysing these discussions and narratives about the energy sources will help form an evidence base to support the development of strategic communications that will in turn aid Australia’s transition to a hydrogen economy. Strategic communication to support Australia’s transition to a hydrogen economy and the many steps on this journey is needed to achieve a sustained social license, build, and assure trust, and avoid misinformation. Hence, we utilise various tools to identify the current conversations. This project focused on identifying and analysing the current conversations that were generated in social media and newspaper articles in Australia related to the hydrogen industry.
