Meet the team

The members of the team have many varied interests, across the topics of data and web mining such as Semi-structured Document Mining; Web Personalisation and Social Network Mining; and  Applied Data Mining.  Here are some example projects.  Research leader, Associate Professor Richi Nayak supervises PhD and Masters Research students, including an academic from MNIT Jaipur India, enrolled in the PhD program. She is the unit coordinator for the “Enterprise Data Mining” course at QUT, utilising a collaborative relationship with SAS (a world leader in business analytics software and services). Richi also course-coordinator of the Doctor of IT and other courses, and ranks very highly in as a teacher and supervisor.

About the research

The Applied Data Mining Research group leader, Associate Professor Richi Nayak successfully attained over $1 million in competitive external research funding over the past five years, including four CRC grants and one ARC linkage grant. Some of the research findings have impacted decision-making processes and resulted in substantial savings to industry partners such as the Queensland Dept. of Transport and Main Roads (QDTMR) and building maintenance in the state Dept. of Public Works (QDPW). Here is a list of the partners associated with the team’s projects.

The team has strong connections to many publications and associations. Associate Professor Richi Nayak’s editorial experience includes but is not limited to:

  • Editorial Board Member of the Book on “XML Mining: Models, Algorithms and Applications” Ideas Publications,
