The Year 3 students at Redeemer Lutheran College have been exploring space and the challenges of being an astronaut this term. On Thursday the 25th of March, MPhil Candidate, Ollie Pye took the 75 students on a virtual journey to explore our Earth, the planets of the solar system, distant exoplanets, and even galaxies. Ollie also introduced them to the tools astronomers use, including computers the size of buildings, and the multitude of telescopes, both ground-based and space-based.
Ollie sparked many curious minds and faced some tough questions on topics well outside the scope of his talk, including ones on black holes and dark matter. Redeemer Lutheran College inform us that Ollie’s contributions were an invaluable experience for the students, as they were able to make connections from their learning to the real world.
