Outreach: QUT Aerospace Society’s MechMayhem Robotics & Space Showcase

The QUT Astrophysics Research Group recently took part in the QUT Aerospace Society’s MechMayhem Robotics & Space Showcase, a day celebrating robotics, engineering, and space exploration.

Our exhibit demonstrated the changing tools of astronomy, from the glass photographic plates that once captured the night sky to modern digital telescopes and QUT’s astronomy dome. We also shared how the group investigates galaxies, black holes, dark energy, and the wider cosmos through collaborations with international and space-based observatories and advanced supercomputing.

Dr Michael Cowley gave a talk on how these projects link to broader research in astrophysics and space science at QUT, while Vanessa Porchet, Megan Barclay, and Dee Yardley led the display and shared QUT astrophysics with the community, engaging with school students, parents, and visitors throughout the day.
