As part of the QUT Astrophysics Research Group’s outreach initiatives, research student Vanessa Porchet participated in the ‘Under 8’s Morning’ event at Esk State School through the CSIRO STEM Professionals in Schools program. Aimed at introducing young children and their families to science, the event featured hands-on activities including building constellation projectors and DIY spectroscopes. It was also an ideal opportunity to inform students from rural areas about pathways into scientific education at QUT, making for a fun and rewarding day of inspiration and discovery.
