As part of the QUT Astrophysics Research Group’s outreach and engagement initiatives, we were pleased to host a hands-on workshop for high school students during this year’s Future You Summit.
With support from our research students Carmen, Vanessa, and Daniel, participants explored the lifecycle of stars, the formation of galaxies, and black holes through an engaging presentation that showcased how the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) is reshaping our view of the cosmos.
Students processed real JWST data to produce RGB images of galaxies and star-forming nebulae. The session sparked great discussion on how image processing choices influence interpretation and scientific outcomes.
A big thank you to all the students who took part, it was inspiring to see such enthusiasm for space science and data analysis.
