Robots

Robotics are gaining prominence in surgery, bringing unprecedented accuracy and functionality to a range of procedures. Our vision for robotics, and for medical technologies in general, is to enable completely new approaches to surgery. For this reason we focus on coupling robots to advanced technologies for both imaging and manipulation of tissues, and to improve robotic control.

We are currently interested in a number of subprojects including the translation of the overdetermined control strategies of the musculoskeletal system to improve robotic function, lightweight optical encoders for cable-driven robotic arms, and exploring opportunities to use robotic platforms with laser systems for new generation medical procedures.
