Physics of health and disease

Focussing on the musculoskeletal system, we are investigating the physical processes underpinning development, homeostatic maintenance and disease, how these relate to and interact with biological processes and how this knowledge can be exploited to aid both understanding and treatment.

We are working on new acoustic and optical techniques to extract key physical information from the cellular and extracellular matrix structures, building and exploring computational models of tissues, developing new multiplexed labelling techniques for electron microscopy, and exploring ways to measure electric fields in biological systems.
