Examining the impact of Executive Education in the Workplace: A study of the PSM program in the Governments of Australia
This study investigates the impact over time of the Public Sector Management Program (PSMP) delivered by QUT in partnership with the APS on the development of managers within the Governments of Australia.
The question that senior management are asking is whether they are receiving a return on their investment from the management development and executive education which they provide to their managers and key staff in their organisations. Partnerships between organisations, universities and individual learners are recognised as the most successful method for transfer of learning and behavioural change to occur from executive education. The study specifically examines how students on an executive education program such as the PSMP integrate their learning into their role and navigate the work environment to become more effective leaders as well as how practices they have learnt impact key organisational outcomes. A multi method approach is being used for this longitudinal study with surveys administered at several points during the students’ learning journey, interviews and diary entries plus organisational data.
