Download hereWalker Learning Approach
This pedagogical approach is based on the Kathy Walker developmental learning curriculum. This approach creates a classroom environment to support and scaffold children through the use of investigations. Investigation stations are created to purposefully address the curriculum and are designed to be age appropriate. These age-appropriate stations provide space and opportunities for exploration and experimentation. Children use this time to work with their peers and problem solve together. Through these activities, open communication develops between peers along with meaningful play, and deep engagement in their learning. As children explore and problem solve together opportunities to consider and develop multiple perspectives arise.

Kagan (1992) provides a range of structures or strategies to encourage sharing, turn taking and cooperation in the classroom. Kagan’s methods promote collaboration and cooperation through pair and group work in a structured way and providing opportunities for student agency. One method used within these classrooms was the Sage and Scribe method, this method provides an opportunity for one student to do the writing and one or more students to talk before swapping over.
