Systematic Literature Reviews 

In the course of graduate studies and in research projects, research methodologies are the subject of intense discussion. But methods are inevitably accompanied by literature reviews, where approaches have tended to be more ad hoc. In this presentation, I will provide an outline of the Systematic Literature Review, as one approach to literature reviews.

With its roots in medical research, systematic literature reviews provide a means of maximising the affordances of online databases, while avoiding the three common pitfalls of literature reviews: randomness, unconscious bias, and over claiming about the originality of one’s own work. It will proceed with some practical examples, and attendees may wish to bring a laptop for use during the presentation. Background materials will be made available to registrants in advance of the session.
