Prof. Ines Engelmann is a Visiting Research Fellow at the QUT Digital Media Research Centre and Professor of Empirical Methods in Communication Studies at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena, Germany. She wrote her doctoral thesis on journalistic news decisions and influencing factors from an everyday rational perspective. Her research focuses on the journalistic construction of news content and public discourses on the Internet. She is currently researching alternative online political media compared to legacy media (especially populism and democracy), the production conditions of message creators, user comments of the audience, and media effects on the democratic legitimacy of recipients.
