Dr Niels Mede

Dr. Niels G. Mede is a communication researcher and works as a Senior Research and Teaching Associate at the Department of Communication and Media Research (IKMZ), University of Zurich. His research centres on science communication, digital media, climate change communication, and survey methodology. Further research interests include populism, mis- and disinformation, polarisation, and their implications for science-society dialogue. He holds a PhD from the University of Zurich (2018-2022), was a visiting scholar at the University of Wisconsin—Madison (2022) and the Oxford Internet Institute (2023), and has been involved in the Science Barometer Switzerland project at the Universities of Zurich and Münster since 2018. Niels Mede is currently co-leading the global survey project TISP (“Trust in Science and Science-Related Populism”) and serves as the speaker of the Science Communication section of the German Communication Association. From June to August 2024, he will join the DMRC as a visiting researcher.
