Dr Nicholas O’Donnell is a Human-Computer Interaction researcher, digital strategist, and creative director with more than 25 years experience devising and implementing beautiful digital experiences that find and interact with their audiences in new and engaging ways.

He is previously the Research Manager at the Digital Wellbeing Lab and his extensive industry experience includes senior digital roles in Federal, State and local government, as well as in a variety of strategic digital roles consulting with organisations in the health, well-being, arts, education, government, transport, and media sectors. Nicholas is currently Head of Digital at QAGOMA where he is leading the gallery’s digital strategy in the lead up to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. He is particularly interested in collaborating with researchers interested in leveraging the gallery’s digital collection to amplify Queensland’s artistic identity on the global stage.

Nicholas completed his Doctor of Information Technology at QUT in 2021 where his research focused on eudaimonic information systems and gamification through the lens of self-determination theory (SDT), exploring how narrative elements can make digital interactions more valuable and meaningful.

His professional life has been spent at the intersection of digital, government, the arts, and community – working to change the world for the better, one pixel at a time.
