Dr Gopura specialises in fashion and textile design and currently working as a senior lecturer at the Department of Textile and Apparel Engineering, University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka. His research focuses on fashion knowledge and cultural flow, fashion design education in global perspectives.
Sri Lankan heritage, culture, and craft sectors have immense tacit knowledge in design that can be integrated in new product development in fashion and textiles. Dr Gopura’s current research seeks how fashion knowledge and cultural flow can be utilised in bringing contemporary twist to the conventional products with a special interest in aged-old Handloom Textiles in Sri Lanka for wider applications.
