Crafting Elegance: New Product Development in Sri Lankan Handloom

This research study aims to explore the intersection of tradition and contemporary fashion by developing new fashion products. It investigates the rich heritage of Handloom craftsmanship in Sri Lanka, exploring the fusion of Handloom textiles with the intricate processes of culturally rich Rush and Reed weaving. One significant outcome of this study thus far is the R&R Corset. With careful attention to technical and aesthetic details, delicate stitching, and royal quality assurance, the R&R corset has been able to elevate the craft thinking in the sector. Through the new fashion product development that combines the timeless artistry of handcrafts with modern fashion trends, the outcome of this study contributes to preserving and promoting Sri Lanka’s cultural identity while fostering innovation in the craft sector.
