Dr Ayesha Wickramasinghe, a senior lecturer of Fashion Design and Product Development, Department of Textile and Apparel Engineering, University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka. She is specialized in Textile and Fashion Design. As a Sri Lankan with great enthusiasm for her own heritage and culture, she investigates local textile craftsmanship principally based on the most prominent craft industries in Sri Lanka namely Handloom textiles seeking its potential collaborations with some of the other traditional craft industries in the country such as hemp, traditional jewellery, wood carving, cane, rush and reed, lacquer work (Laksha) and brass work. Her current investigations pursue to facilitate the collaboration of different craft industries with the handloom sector to enable knowledge transfer as well as new textile and artefact product development by a concept of ‘mix & matching’ outcome.
