Position Title: Research Assistant – Biomaterials & Microbiology
Location: MPQC – QUT, Brisbane Australia.
Employment Type: Part-time / Full-time

About the Project
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Research Assistant to support ongoing research on implant-related infections, biofilm formation, and antibacterial biomaterials. Our team develops advanced 3D in vitro models to study biofilm development under physiologically relevant conditions.
Role Responsibilities
The successful candidate will assist with:
  • Preparation and maintenance of bacterial cultures and mammalian cell culture media
  • Running microbiological assays (e.g., CFU counts, metabolic activity assays, flow cytometry, confocal imaging)
  • Fabrication and handling of hydrogels and 3D-printed scaffolds
  • General laboratory duties and support for ongoing experiments
  • Organising samples, preparing reagents, and following standard operating procedures
About You
The ideal candidate will have:
  • A background in microbiology (preferred); knowledge of biomaterials, including hydrogel systems, is a plus. PhD or Masters degree preferred
  • Prior wet-lab experience in microbiology; additional experience in cell culture, hydrogel fabrication, or biomaterials highly valued
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organisational skills
  • Willingness to learn new techniques and work independently after training
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team
